The Stayton is worthy of even the most epic ultras. 210gsm wool and a touch of elastane create a wicked durable, highly functional piece of gear. Flatlock stitching and raglan-style sleeves will keep the chafe monster away.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The most technical piece of merino running gear on the market. A series of functional back vents create airflow in high-sweat zones, and a fit that walks the line perfectly between not-too-tight and not-too-loose.

I’m a huge fan of the Stayton. I found PEP a few months back on RunnersWorld.com and decided to give the Shevlin a try. I liked it so much that I went back for more and bought the Stayton too. I was a little skeptical of the back vents at first, thinking that maybe it was more of a marketing thing than an actual feature that worked, but after wearing it a bunch over the last month I am totally sold. You can feel the air move, especially on cooler days. All in all, another solid effort from PEP.

I live in Northern California, and was looking for something that could handle quick changes in weather. Not too hot, not too cold. I found PEP on a trail running blog that I read and decided to give it a shot after one of their other products was reviewed. I’ve been running with the Stayton for about a few weeks now and must admit that it’s my go-to shirt for the outdoors. Sizing seems spot on too. I’m 6’0, 165lbs and the medium fit is spot on.

This shirt is awesome! It performs better than any of the other merino brands I’ve tried (all of them), the quality is super high, and the price is so much better than those other brands. Go get it, PEP!
Paul in AK –
I run in the frigid temps of Alaska, and found out about PEP from a buddy of mine who ran the Seattle marathon. He had good things to say about the Shelving, but I am more of a short sleeve guy so I decided to give this shirt a shot. I use it mostly as a base layer now, but I’m really happy with the performance so far. It keeps me warm under a jacket, wicks sweat and has been far more durable than the other merino brands I’ve tried. Now I’m looking forward to the spring when I can wear this as a stand alone! When are you guys going to make shorts!?

I bought this shirt in July 2015 and waited until now to write a review because I had some initial (visual) disappointment in the garment. The vents in the back looked like they may not hold up to snags while running on trails. However, I decided to reserve judgement until I could put it to the test in cooler weather.
Well, I am sold! This shirt was definitely designed by a runner. The heavier wool is placed in areas which need a little extra warmth. And the stitching on the vent areas is reinforced. I run trail areas and sometimes encounter briars and branches that snag my clothing. This garment has definitely held up!
I continue to be impressed by this company and have recommended them to all of my family and friends who appreciate the luxury of merino wool. I own and wear merino wool made by Smartwool, Minus 33, Ice breaker, and First Lite. The Pep brand is my favorite! The craftsmanship, comfort, and cut are all outstanding! The shipping is extremely fast, and it’s clear they care about their customers.
Please start making bottoms, gloves, beanies, socks, etc! How about a vest? Please, please, please!

best sport shirt ever. fits perfectly, looks sharp, keeps cool and dry. for warm and cooler weather, used it for running and tennis. it does not stink at all and I can wear it multiple times (yes!!)with out washing. Awesome!
WYM –
This shirt was awesome, kept me warm during the run in early morning and not too warm when the sun rises later in the run. The downside is with less then less than 10 wash, there were already 2 tiny holes.

Hey WYM-
Thanks for the review! Awesome to hear that you dig the Stayton and I’m sorry to hear that a few small holes have developed. As you know merino is a natural material and sometimes the staple length of the fibers are cut too short and they can form small holes. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s part of the “science” behind natural fibers.
That said, we want to make sure you are completely happy with the gear. Send us an email and we’ll be happy to replace the Stayton with one that is new and doesn’t have this same issue!
Best,
Lisa
