The Shevlin was built for the ages: Sturdy merino, Strategic seam placement, Sustainable performance. It’s designed to support you no matter the condition, whether you’re braving the trails of Leadville in August or running the streets of Portland in January.
WHAT TO EXPECT: A staple piece of running gear. The Shevlin is rock solid, and sports a longer than average fit that won’t feel like your typical piece of boxy athletic wear. The sleeves are a bit longer too, but don’t fret: They’ll hold on your forearms when the temperature starts to rise.
We’ve updated the Shevlin based on the feedback you’ve given: More vibrant colors, a reflective logo, smaller care label, and an updated neckline that fits similar to a regular ‘ole T-shirt.
Long Cut Through The Torso
Raglan-Style Sleeves
No Side Seams
Thumb Loops

I’ve had the Shevlin for a couple of months at this point and have been putting it through the paces with no complaints. Running in the Northwest gives a lot of opportunity for running in cool, damp weather. This shirt does a great job of keeping me warm (not hot) on those days. I usually start out with my hands in the sleeves/thumb holes and after warming up, pull the sleeves up a bit. I love the fact the sleeves stay where I put them. Lastly, I have been on my own little (disturbing) challenge and haven’t washed it after my last 6-8 runs to challenge the whole “doesn’t stink” idea. Happily to both me and my running patterns, the shirt is winning the battle!

Without a doubt, my new favorite running shirt. Living in the Pacific Northwest, this is the perfect shirt whether its 48 and drizzling or sunny and 76. Pettet Merino Wool is the softest and most comfortable wool I’ve ever felt; everyone should buy one of these!!! Seriously, do yourself a favor and pick up a couple, you won’t be disappointed!
Mike –
This is my third Pettet piece. The weave is amazing. The fit is spot on. The construction, top notch. If you’ve tried Icebreaker and/or Smartwool, try PEP and you’ll never go back.

I picked up the Shevlin at the Bloomsday trade show in Spokane last April and wanted to do my due diligence before popping on and reviewing. The look, feel, and fit immediately grabbed my attention. It seemed like a top truly made for runners, by runners. I can happily say those same sentiments translated “on the road.” This has definitely become my new favorite running top. For anyone who runs in the NW you know you need a top that can that weird in-between weather where you don’t know if you want long sleeves or short. I never get overheated and I’m never cold. The extra long sleeves are perfect for me and they always stay nice and tight. The only drawback is that I end up wearing the shirt when I’m not running a little too much, so I’ll probably be investing in another one soon. All in all, love the story, love the USA made, but most importantly, it’s just a really great running shirt!

Another great PEP product. I love this product. It’s been great for me to start off a cold run and the thumb holes are an awesome addition that I’ve really only seen in women’s athletic gear. Soft and comfortable for any occasion and it looks great too. Easy to pack for a hike . Can’t go wrong!

There were a few things about the Shevlin that struck me initially – soft, both sleeves and shirt are generously long, and the iron-on tag on the inside lower panel looks kind of neat (big too – bigger than a credit card). I wear the shirt casually as well, so it has more function than a workout only shirt.
I’m 6’1″ 180 lbs. I have a large, which fits loosely. It may be possible for a medium to fit, though not sure as I haven’t tried a medium on. I prefer the loose fit and appreciate that the sleeves don’t expose my wrists.
Performance – went for an 8 miler in the woods today. It was 34 degrees with a 10 mph north wind, but sunny (unusual for November in Northern Michigan). I tend to run hot, so I had on the Shevlin, a nylon shell, and shorts. At no time was I either uncomfortably warm or cold. Probably not a warm enough shirt to run without the shell given the wind, so I’d rate the sweet spot for me as something I’d wear in the 40-55 degree range. Absolutely no chaffing or discomfort. If I wear a tech fabric I always have to lube up certain areas. Didn’t need to with the Shevlin.
Overall thoughts – I prefer to run in cotton shirts over tech fabrics even though everywhere you read it says you can’t run in cotton in the winter. I’ve been doing it for 40 years. Last winter I went snowshoe running over 50 times in a cotton base layer with many runs over an hour and temps more than 10 below zero with stiff winds. I just don’t care for most tech fabric thermal performance and you might as well throw them out after wearing a few times as they stink. So when my Shevlin arrived and it felt like wearing cotton (soft) I was eager to try it out. Since I already know the admirable smell properties of merino wool from several pairs of socks, this love affair with natural fabrics has taken on a whole new life. The Shevlin tends to absorb the moisture more than evaporate it like a tech fabric, but by not over dressing this is not an issue for me. Wool also maintains thermal characteristics when damp. As with any time after going for a significant run where a shower isn’t handy, having a dry shirt handy after the workout is recommended.

I live in south central Texas. We’ve had a couple cool mornings and I’ve been able to wear the Shevlin. The shirt kept me comfortably warm. The thumb loops kept me from starting with gloves and then having to figure out what to do with them when my hands got warm. Once I no longer needed the thumb loops, the sleeves stayed up on my forearms without constant tugging to keep them in place. For the 9 and 15 mile runs where I’ve worn the shirt, I didn’t experience any chafing. I usually run on road in the early morning. I wish the shirt had reflective materials and that it came in brighter colors (red, orange, yellow) for better visibility. Even without reflectivity and bright colors, I still give the Shevlin 5 stars. It is a great shirt. I also found the Pettet Endurance customer service team to be very helpful in determining the right size shirt to buy. Good company…and I am generally a tough customer to satisfy.

This is based on first impressions of one day wearing and one 8-mile run, but I’m totally sold. (In fact, I’m back on the site right now because I’m ordering another color.) I’m tall and athletic enough (6’2″, 185 with long arms/torso) that ordering online is always a gamble, but a large Shevlin fits better than just about any other running shirt I own. To find a running shirt that comes halfway down my butt and has sleeves long enough to cover almost my entire palms is 100% unprecedented; to find all of that made in the US from soft, warm wool for sixty bucks is incredible. I love supporting companies like PEP who put thought and time and passion into designing products for the people who really use them, and care and compassion into the production process.

My new favorite running shirt. Great for chilly evening runs. It is light and keeps me warm and tempts me into wearing it even when I’m not running.

A little about me before I review…I live in New Jersey where we get real winters and temperature extremes. I have no concept of what perspire means…I sweat. I’m 6’5 215 and was always more of a basketball player, so coming back to running where I started was an interesting transition. I received my Shevlin a day before the recent Nor’easter hit the area, and did a short 10K the day after. It probably wicked the sweat, but since I was wet after 2 miles, I couldn’t tell. That being said, even at 32 degrees with flurries, I was never cold. I wore it at a NYRR event in Central Park on 12/13 and it was just as cold, but I was comfortable and still warm. I have very long arms, and the XL fits them with room to spare, which is not typical for me. After two weeks, I haven’t washed it yet, so we’ll see how long that lasts. I will be purchasing another soon because it felt great…and yes Greg, PEP Merino in New Jersey is AWESOME!

This is a great shirt from a great company. I’m in Ohio which means that in the span of a year I’ll run through temps from 0 to 100. This shirt, as a base layer or by itself, covers the sub 65 range of temperatures beautifully. It also looks great and I wear it casually as well. The product is superb however if you need another selling point, the company is just amazingly cool. The packaging is elegant and the little hand written note is a really nice touch. They also remember your past orders and make comment about them which is another great touch. Love the shirt, love the company. A must buy!

I’ve now done several runs in the Shevlin–ranging from 4 miles to 30 miles–and feel I can review it. It works great! Never overheats, doesn’t chafe, and it feels silky smooth. Plus, the fit is tremendous. I’m 6’3″, 175 pounds, and the large fits perfectly. Fit is slim, but not tight. Long torso and long arms (plus the thumb holes). New favorite shirt!

The Shevlin has quickly become my every-and-any adventure shirt! Living in Colorado means that you get used to wild temperature swings — cold and snowy one day, warm and sunny the next. The Shevlin keeps me comfortable in any conditions the Rockies throw at me.
Just this week, I went for a sunrise hike near Red Rocks. It was a crisp 35 degrees when I hit the trailhead and a sunny 60 degrees when I finished. My PEP gear kept me warm in the crisp dawn air and cool in the warming mid-day air. Love it!

The fit is phenomenal. I’m 6’3 – 175 lbs (size m) and i don’t think a shirt has fit my arms/chest/butt so well. I just came back from a bike ride and the thumb loops really help cut the wind. The temperature regulation and sweat-wicking properties of the wool kept me cozy and dry.

A great piece of gear for cooler temps (40-55 degrees). As others have noted, the fit is spot on. I was initially concerned about the long torso and arms (I’m 5’6″, 145lbs, size small), but the longer torso provides good coverage and the longer arms work well down (thumb loops are nice) as well as cuffed up. My new go-to shirt for cooler Northern CA trail runs!

This is the best running shirt I have ever owned. Love the way it wicks, preserves warmth on the cool days (thumb hole sleeves are a great alternative to gloves on those 30-40 degree days) and most of all – I can dry it and wear it again. It also works surprisingly well as temps climb. I will be replacing all my long sleeves w/ Shvlein (though, for reasons just noted, not one for one). I strongly recommend this shirt.
Michael –
I’ve had the Shevlin for over six months. It has held up well to rugged use and to the washing machine. Great fit and lightweight yet sturdy construction. I’m impressed.

AMAZING…Just got my first PEP shirt last week after waiting forever for them to get back in stock. All I can say is, this is hands down the best merino shirt for the money out there. I’m sort of a merino junkie, having shirts from Patagonia, Smartwool, Ibex, Icebreaker, Montane, and RAB. Not only is the PEP Shevlin the least expensive of the lot, but it clearly surpasses them all in quality of construction and materials as well as functionality. I’m 5’11”, 172 lbs with very broad shoulders and usually end up with a shirt that fits my shoulders but has way to much room in the lower torso. The Shevlin in a size large fit me perfectly. It is close fitting without being skin tight. No wasted material here. Love the extra length in the arms and torso (hits me about midway down my butt), and the thumb loops are a nice added feature. The fabric weight is also ideal for pretty much every activity I’ll use this for. Light enough for all but the hottest weather and thick enough for all but the coldest temps. All this, and it’s MADE IN USA. Why am I paying so much more for these other big name brand merino shirts that are in every way inferior to the PEP while being manufactured in other countries? I will definitely be buying more of these. Thanks PEP for this amazing shirt!

This is my favorite piece of running gear. I can wear it over a wide range of temps and be comfortable. Fit is great, it doesn’t retain odors, sleeves are long enough for my long skinny runner’s arms, shows no wear after wearing it a couple of times a week over the last 3 months and it looks good.
The only less than positive thing I can say is that I received mine with some quality control issues, but Pettet took care of it right away and the replacement has been flawless.
Grant –
Perfect shirt for the PNW Fall/Winter! This is my go to shirt once summer is over. Like most Merino it wicks moisture well and doesn’t retain funky smells. The fit of this shirt is slightly slimmer than the Gresham, very similar to the Fremont. PEP shirts are very comfortable and high quality construction, this shirt is no exception. I’ve owned my Shevlin for about a year now and there is no sign of wear other than the reflective logo on the back right shoulder peeling off š . I see no reason to buy any other brand of Merino running gear. I love that I’m supporting local business and that the clothing is made in the USA. I’m very happy with my purchase and recommend PEP to all my running friends.

Received my green Shevlin in M today. I am 6’3″ with long arms and it fits perfectly. Looking forward to many long runs and hikes in it and can already see myself ordering a second one.
Really liked the eco friendly packaging and the personal hand written note!

Awesome piece of kit — the longer sleeves and torso fit great while running. Perfect for 40° NW Florida winter days, but the sleeves hold well on the forearms when it warms up. I’m 5’8″ and 150#, and the Small is perfect.
